Human beings are funny creatures. We all (or at least most of us) want to enjoy greater prosperity and have a deeper experience of living. At the same time, we constantly undermine ourselves and do things that keep us exactly where we don’t want to be: stuck in our present circumstances.
Take the example of setting up a business. The internet and newspaper are bursting with opportunities and new ways of making money. Most of them are online, like this one. So we scour around for hours, days, weeks and months looking for the right opportunity that will deliver us more money, more freedom and that deeper sense of happiness.
We finally find one or two that appeal to us. We like the products, or we’d like to make the sort of money other ordinary people claim to be making. So we respond to the ad, or fill out a form, or sign up to get an email from the person or company.
A day or two later someone calls or another email comes through. We have a chat with the person or read the email which tells us a bit more about the business. We are asked to move to the next stage and get more information. Most of us don’t but the few that do finally get to the point where they have to make a decision, do I put some money down to buy the product and invest?
Suddenly, we back off. We conclude that the person we’ve been talking to and the information we’ve received is just not trustworthy. It is probably a scam. This business is just a rip-off, we say. We refuse to take the person’s next call, ignore all the emails and go back to searching for another opportunity.
I did this all the time. I said I wanted something but then immediately pulled away because I felt it was too good to be true or ‘everything on the internet is a scam’.
I’ve come to the conclusion that what most people really want when they are looking for a business or a money making opportunity online is, in fact, a magic pudding. They want (and I was the same) something that won’t cost them any or as little as possible money, will deliver extraordinary, immediate and ongoing income and will require little or no real effort on their part. All of which are the characteristics of a SCAM!
So we go out looking for a SCAM. When we find an opportunity that interests us. We look at it and say, “yep, that’s a SCAM alright”, feel good that we’ve not been ripped off and move on. The only problem is we’ve not come any closer to our supposed goal which is to make some money or have a better work-life balance
We always find what we are looking for!
I’ve come to the conclusion that most of the business opportunities offered online are not SCAMs. Our’s certainly is not a SCAM. And most of the affiliate marketing opportunities, network marketing opportunities and even MLM opportunities are genuine. By that I mean, people can and do make money from them. They are not designed to steal your money and deliver nothing.
What they are, are vehicles. They are business models that can take you from point A (your current unsatisfactory place) to point B (a better place, however, you define that).
They are like cars.
Some cars are expensive and go fast. Others are harder to drive than others. Some will never hit a top speed of more than 80kms per hour. But they will all move you forward provided you put petrol in the tank. And most importantly, you take responsibility for driving it. The single most critical factor to ensure you get to Point B from Point A is not the vehicle you choose but the driver. If there is no one behind the wheel to turn the key, operate the pedals and steer the wheel, even a $500,000 Ferrari will not move an inch.
Online businesses are the same. Some sell physical products. Some are designed to make money by driving business to other people’s sites. Some sell herbs. Our’s offers life-changing personal development courses and live events. They are all good, legal and genuine ways to make money. Some will get you to your financial goals quicker than others. Some will require a greater upfront investment to get started. Some will deliver huge profits per sale some will deliver modest profits per sale. But if you learn how to ‘drive’ them, any one of them will get you where you want to go.
But they all require a driver. Without you, the driver, they are just words and potential. Ideas and propositions.
If you’re reading this you’ve obviously investigated our website a bit. You may conclude personal development is not for you and move on. That’s great. Don’t get involved in a business or activity you have no emotional connection to.
But if you like what you see, if becoming a more empowered, in control, prosperous and happy person IS something you want don’t automatically assume the business won’t work. This business is just the vehicle. It is designed to deliver you big profits through a simple 3 step system. But it won’t deliver you a dollar if you are not willing to learn how to operate the system and pay some money to fill the tank with petrol.
It’s not the business that rip us off. It is us who do it to ourselves.
